Book 3 of Clean Sweep Mysteries
Curb Alert
It's trash day. The murder weapon is free to a good home.
Marnie Kowalczyk has found one body in a freezer and another in an armoire. This time, the evidence is sitting on the curb.
It's bulk-trash week in Pruett Falls, Ohio. Sofas, toilets, a stair lift, and on one neighbor's pile, a 1994 bowling trophy with dried blood on the base.
Marnie knows better than to touch it. Her daughter, Josie, laid off and home on a leaking air mattress, knows better than to wait. By lunch the trophy has a hashtag. By the weekend it has two million views.
One name on the plate belongs to Walt Gaffney, the bowling alley owner who fell off a step stool last week. Officially.
Now Walt's daughter wants Clean Sweep to empty Strike Zone Lanes before it sells: three hundred pairs of rental shoes, nine hundred trophies, and three old teammates who all swear Walt was their best friend.
Meanwhile, Dodie keeps slipping out at one in the morning with a big purse and a ream of paper, and the deputy coroner, Abe Lindqvist, has started measuring things. Including Marnie.
One of those teammates swung that trophy. Marnie has until the next pickup day to figure out which.
A funny, soft-boiled mystery with a closed-door slow burn. Mild language, no gore, and no animals harmed.
